Edinburgh Hebrew Congregation provides a range of adult educational activities for all ages and abilities, open to members and non-members alike.

At present all classes are held on zoom. The groups are small, informal, friendly and interactive. For Modern Hebrew please contact us. For all other classes please contact the Rabbi

Tanakh Class:

Mondays 6.00pm led by Rabbi Rose and Eli Atad

Class members take turns reading the Hebrew or Aramaic text as well as the English translation and share interpretations and understandings. We have recently completed Samuel I and II and are starting the Book of Daniel.

Jewish Philosophy:

Tuesdays 5.15pm led by Rabbi Rose

The class has recently studied the Kuzari of Judah Halevi and Maimonides’ Thirteen Principles of Faith. We are currently working on the Mishnah. 

 

Parshah of the Week

Parshah of the Week Shiur:

Thursday’s 5.00pm led by Rabbi Rose

Class members take turns in reading aloud the Rabbi’s English translation and key Hebrew phrases and then the interpretations by various sages which we go on to discuss. 

Modern Hebrew with Eli Atad:

Advanced: Sundays 6pm -7pm

Beginners: Sundays 7pm – 8pm

The Beginners class is based on “Everyday Hebrew” by Eliezer Tirkel and the Advanced class uses articles in Ivrit from the Jerusalem Post. Activities include reading aloud, conversation, grammar exercises, writing, role play and games. Some light homework is involved!
